← Deck Caddie
What’s new
Deck Caddie updates itself — when a new version is out, a green ⬆ appears in the panel. These are the highlights of each release since September 2026, plus the first releases; small fixes are left out.
1.0.75
October 26, 2026- The panel now shows, while it waits for your first track, how well it knows YOU: it replays your own past gigs in the background (nothing leaves your Mac) and says how often the song you really played next was among its 6 picks — for example ‘27% of the time, where 6 random songs from your library would hit 0.01%’. It is shown only when the result is good; a weak result stays in the Diagnostic, where it comes with the reason.
- An optional box on the free trial: leave your e-mail and you get one note from the developer before your free gigs run out. It is asked once, ‘No thanks’ is remembered, and the address is sent only if you type one. Nothing about your music is ever sent.
- The Diagnostic report now says where missing files are (an unplugged drive, another user’s folder, or this Mac’s folders), lists every installed rekordbox version and marks the running one, and fixes a Hebrew sentence in the local-scene line.
1.0.74
October 24, 2026- Same-artist spacing now works on collaborations. With ‘Space it out’ on, the panel pushed the artist you just played away — but only when the credit matched exactly, so a track credited ‘Artist x Other’ or ‘Artist & Other’ counted as a different artist and came straight back. Deck Caddie now looks at every performer in a credit, so two tracks that share a performer count as the same artist.
- The ‘fresh pick that fits’ section at the bottom of the panel ignored this setting altogether. It now spaces the same artist out as well (and never shows them at all if you chose ‘Never suggest it’).
1.0.73
October 19, 2026- Fix: the panel could freeze or lag when you moved the Proven ⟷ Fresh slider, most of all at its ‘all fresh’ end. At that end stop the engine could get stuck in an endless loop; the panel then decided the engine was dead, restarted it, asked it for the same slider position and froze it again — so for a while the panel stopped following your decks. The slider now answers in a fraction of a second at every position, and the panel no longer restarts an engine that is only busy or still starting up.
- Serato DJ Pro 5.0 checked: the library, crates, live log and History files are all still read correctly.
- rekordbox 7 on Mac is no longer labelled beta. It was tested on rekordbox 7.2; rekordbox 6 has not been tested yet.
1.0.72
October 19, 2026- Serato 4 and newer: Deck Caddie keeps learning from your gigs. Serato 4 stopped writing the old History session files (the newest on a typical Mac is months old) and keeps your History in its own database instead, so a DJ who relies on Serato’s built-in History would have stopped teaching the panel the day that changed. Deck Caddie now also reads the nights recorded there — read-only, and only nights newer than the last old-style file, so nothing is counted twice.
- A Serato file check in the Verify step and the diagnostic report: it looks at the Serato version and at the files Deck Caddie reads (library, crates, live log, History) and warns in plain words if a newer Serato looks to have changed one of them. It reports only dates and counts — never a song or a path.
1.0.71
October 18, 2026- When your 3 free gigs are over, the panel now tells you what it actually did for you — for example ‘the panel’s picks included the song you played next 14 of 41 times (34%)’ — and asks one anonymous, one-tap question: ‘What stopped you?’ (price / not useful / bugs / not yet). The panel keeps that hit rate as two plain numbers on your Mac; they go along with the launch check-in (nothing about your music — the privacy wording across the site was updated to say exactly this). A DJ with little or no history in Serato/rekordbox gets a better first suggestion: songs from the same crate or playlist as what is playing are now preferred (measured on a library with no history at all: the next song was among the six picks 6.4% of the time instead of 2.0%, and 12.3% instead of 10.5% after one night of history; nothing changes once there are three nights).
1.0.70
October 18, 2026- rekordbox setup now checks the one setting the panel depends on instead of just describing it: Deck Caddie reads rekordbox’s own ‘Playback time setting’ and shows a green ✓ when it is 1 second, a red card with the actual value (and what to change) when it is not, and the same check appears in Verify and in the Diagnostic report. If the panel is waiting and the setting is wrong, it tells you the value (‘Set rekordbox Playback time to 1 s (now 60 s)’). rekordbox saves its settings when it quits, so a change shows up after a restart. Also lighter on your Mac during a gig: with rekordbox the panel used to open its encrypted database every 2 seconds (about 4% of a CPU core, all night); it now only looks again when rekordbox’s files actually change.
1.0.69
October 14, 2026- Songs whose file lives under an old path now load. Dropbox moved its folder on newer macOS (from ~/Dropbox to ~/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox), so a library written before — or on another Mac or user — still points at a path where the file no longer is, and the deck answered ‘Load error — the file could not be found’ even though the song is right there. Deck Caddie now looks for the file where it really is today and drags that path instead (your library is never touched), and still recognises the song when the deck plays it. The tempo rule is now ‘beatmixable’ = within 10% of what is playing (half/double-time counts as close): the amber BPM warning, the ♩ strict-tempo window and the down-ranking of songs with no history behind them all use it — before it was 8%. The Diagnostic report says how many songs were repaired this way.
1.0.68
October 14, 2026- Deck Caddie no longer offers a song your deck cannot load. A file that was moved or deleted, an SSD that is not plugged in, or a Dropbox / iCloud file that is ‘online-only’ (not downloaded to the Mac) used to be suggested anyway and rekordbox answered ‘Load error — the file could not be found’. Those songs are now skipped (search still shows them, marked ⚠︎ or ☁︎; if nearly every file looks missing — say your music drive is not connected — the check switches itself off so the panel never goes empty), and the Diagnostic report says how many files are missing or online-only so you can fix them at the source (in Dropbox: Make available offline). A song with no history behind it is no longer suggested when its tempo is far from what is playing — before, that was only so at high tempos, so a 128-BPM pick could follow a 100-BPM track. If the panel ever sits on ‘loading…’ because its engine did not start, it now says what is going on (‘Starting up — reading your library…’), restarts the engine once by itself and, if it still does not answer, points you to ⚙ ▸ Diagnostic; the engine keeps its own log and the report includes its last lines (no track names or paths). The corner handle for resizing is a bigger target and takes the very first click even when rekordbox or Serato is the active window.
1.0.67
October 11, 2026- During the free trial, the app now tells us two numbers when it opens (and when a free gig gets used up): how many of your 3 free gigs you have used, and whether the trial is over. That is all — nothing about your music, your library, your crates or what you played, and nothing at all once you have a licence. It lets us see how far people actually get with the trial, so we can fix where it stops. The privacy wording across the site (all languages) was updated to say exactly this.
1.0.66
October 9, 2026- Updates are now impossible to miss. When a newer build exists, the panel shows a clear ‘⬆ Update 1.0.67’ pill in its footer (next to the free-gigs count) as well as the green arrow in the header; hover it to see what changed, click it to install — it downloads, swaps the app and relaunches. The check now repeats every few hours while the panel stays open (a build found mid-session is shown calmly, never as a bright pill during a set), and the first launch after an update says ‘✓ Updated to …’ once, with what’s new on hover. Nothing is ever installed without your click.
1.0.65
October 7, 2026- Serato: same fix as rekordbox got in 1.0.64. A song you add to Serato after Deck Caddie has started is now recognised when you load it. Before, Deck Caddie read your library once at start, so the load line in Serato’s log for a brand-new file matched nothing and the panel simply stayed on the previous song — the picks looked frozen until you restarted it. Now Deck Caddie notices the library changed, re-reads it in the background, learns the new song (and its key and tempo once Serato has analysed it), and new songs are found by search within seconds. A loaded file that is not in your library at all (streaming, or a file Serato cannot find) is now said out loud instead of leaving the panel waiting. rekordbox and Serato now share one mechanism.
1.0.64
October 7, 2026- rekordbox: a song you drag into rekordbox after Deck Caddie has started is now recognised the moment you play it. Before, Deck Caddie read your library once at start, so a freshly imported song was unknown to it: the panel stayed on ‘waiting’ and the picks never changed until you restarted it. Now it learns that song on the spot, fills in its key and tempo as soon as rekordbox has analysed it, picks up other new imports within about 45 seconds (they become searchable and can show up as fresh picks), and when the playing track has no file (a streaming track or a missing file) the panel says so instead of waiting. Search now ignores differences that made Hebrew queries miss — a geresh typed as ׳ or ', final letters, vowel points and invisible direction marks. The ‘waiting’ hint now says what rekordbox actually needs: press play (it logs played tracks, not loaded ones).
1.0.63
October 7, 2026- rekordbox: Deck Caddie now reads genre from all three places a rekordbox DJ keeps it — the track’s Genre field, your own My Tag columns (rekordbox stores those only in its database, never in the file) and your playlists — and setup says where it found it, e.g. ‘My Tag ▸ Genre 59%’. If your genre column in My Tag has a name that doesn’t say ‘genre’ (say ‘Vibe’), setup now lists it under Genre so you can pick it. With several genre-named columns the one actually in use wins over an empty one, and deleted tags are ignored. The setup report and the Verify check show how much genre comes from the Genre field and how much from My Tag.
1.0.62
October 7, 2026- You can now resize the panel: drag the little handle in its bottom-right corner to make it wider or taller (double-click it for the default size). A taller panel shows more picks; the size is remembered and the panel never grows off the screen. Search now works as you type, in Hebrew and English, and always answers — a hint when the box is empty, ‘No matches’, or an error if the engine does not respond. rekordbox: when nothing has been recorded for 15 minutes the ‘N tonight’ badge turns into an amber ‘last play … ago’ with a tip to set Playback time to 1 second, instead of passing off an old track as the one playing now. The ♩ strict-tempo button now shows what it is doing (‘♩ ±9 BPM’) and also applies to the fresh picks.
1.0.61
October 7, 2026- rekordbox: genre you file as a My Tag (My Tag ▸ Genre) is now read too — not only the track’s Genre column. A DJ who keeps genre in My Tag used to see no genre at all, so picks could not be matched by genre. If both exist, the My Tag wins. Setup counts My Tag genres when it measures how much of your library is tagged.
1.0.60
October 6, 2026- You can now buy from inside the app. A small ‘Buy · $39’ button sits in the panel’s footer for the whole free trial (solid gold on your last free gig), the trial-over screen opens with a full-width Buy button above ‘Activate licence’, and the activation dialog now starts with ‘Buy’ or ‘I have a key’. Before, the only way to buy was to find the pricing on the website. The Buy button is in all seven languages.
1.0.59
October 6, 2026- ↻ Other is now a plain refresh: it no longer changes colour, and you can press it again and again — each press brings other songs (the panel keeps a 60-deep ranked list to page through instead of 21, and only starts over after the very last page).
1.0.58
October 6, 2026- Fix: the ↻ Other button works again. Each press now shows the next set of picks from the same ranked list — the proven rows on top and the fresh ones below — and wraps back to the start after the last page. Since 1.0.38 it only changed colour. The panel now keeps up to 21 ranked picks to page through.
1.0.57
October 4, 2026- Quieter list headers: ‘PLAY NEXT’ and ‘FRESH PICK THAT FITS’ stop repeating ‘· drag to deck’ once you have dragged a track onto a deck for the first time (hover the header to see the hint again). The German header is shorter so it no longer gets cut off.
1.0.56
October 4, 2026- Serato 4: the now-playing box now also shows the track that is loaded on your other deck (⇄ 1 · title; hover for the full name). It says ‘loaded’, not ‘on air’ — Serato does not record which deck is audibly playing — and it is read straight from Serato’s own history, read-only. Nothing changes if you use an older Serato.
1.0.55
October 4, 2026- A keyboard shortcut to hide and show the panel: press ⌃⌥D, even while Serato or rekordbox has the focus (no special permission needed). Keys can now also be shown in Open Key notation (1m, 4d…) next to the classic and Camelot styles — choose it in Settings; the key colours work with all three. rekordbox: with rekordbox closed, Deck Caddie now opens its database in a way that leaves nothing behind — before, SQLite could drop two empty helper files (master.db-wal and -shm, which rekordbox ignores) next to it.
1.0.54
October 3, 2026- Songs you have never played now appear only in the fresh section at the bottom — the picks on top are always tracks that have worked for you, so the ‘N proven’ count under the slider is true. When a track has little history behind it, the fresh section fills the rows the top leaves empty instead of mixing never-played songs in with the proven ones.
1.0.53
October 3, 2026- ‘versions ▾’ is far more accurate. Other songs by the same artist are no longer listed as versions of each other — including when the artist is written in Hebrew in your tags and in English in the file name — and songs with a very short name (like ‘רק שלך’) now find all their real versions, mashups and edits, in either script. On large libraries it is also more careful: a version has to share the whole song name.
1.0.52
October 3, 2026- A calmer, cleaner look and a clearer setup. The panel’s toolbar now uses crisp icons — SOS, lock, tempo direction and Sunlight light up when they are on — song titles are a touch smaller so more of the name fits, and every button in setup is slimmer. Setup explains the gig, standout-night and History questions in plain words with a small worked example, speaks ‘playlist’ when you use rekordbox, and shows the one rekordbox setting first. The panel, the setup questions and the reasons under each pick now come in seven languages (English, עברית, Español, Português, Deutsch, Français, Italiano). Fix: the trial line in Settings showed gigs used instead of gigs left.
1.0.51
October 2, 2026- rekordbox support (beta): Deck Caddie now works with rekordbox 7 on Mac as well as Serato DJ Pro. It reads rekordbox’s library, History and playlists (read-only), follows the deck live and hands you the next track from your own library — pick your DJ software in Settings. In rekordbox, set Preferences ▸ Advanced ▸ Browse ▸ Playback time setting to 1 second. Also: the panel no longer comes up empty for a DJ with only a few short sessions in their history, and the Proven ⟷ Fresh counter always matches the rows shown.
1.0.50
October 2, 2026- The licence note in Settings now describes what the app really does: it works fully offline during a gig and only checks in briefly when you open it. Your library and play history are never uploaded.
1.0.49
October 1, 2026- Your ‘good track’ colour is now shown as a real colour swatch, next to its code, in Settings and the setup wizard.
1.0.48
October 1, 2026- New ↕ ▲ ▼ tempo-direction button next to ♩: faster picks first, slower picks first, or off — for when you want to bring the energy up or down. It is a soft filter (nothing is hidden), and the BPM turns cyan on the picks that move the way you asked.
1.0.47
September 28, 2026- The ‘versions ▾’ button on the now-playing box is now a toggle — press it again to jump back to your picks.
1.0.46
September 28, 2026- Settings and the first-run wizard now offer exactly the same options — the Serato Prepare (requests) question was added to the wizard.
1.0.45
September 28, 2026- ‘versions ▾’ for the track playing right now, a Back-to-picks button at the bottom of the versions view, and the gig / standout-night marks are always editable in Settings.
1.0.44
September 26, 2026- ☀︎ Sunlight mode: a light, high-contrast theme that stays readable in direct sun. Tap it again to go back to dark.
1.0.43
September 24, 2026- Settings dropdowns now remember what you chose instead of snapping back to whatever was detected.
1.0.42
September 24, 2026- A first-run setup wizard (five short steps) alongside the full settings screen.
1.0.41
September 24, 2026- Settings is now one screen: a status banner, everything that was detected, everything you can change, and Save from the same place. The diagnostic report is optional.
1.0.40
September 24, 2026- The Proven ⟷ Fresh slider now looks like a slider, with a clearly visible rail.
1.0.39
September 24, 2026- The artist name under each pick; an amber BPM when a pick is a big tempo jump from what is playing; and a ♩ strict-tempo toggle that puts beatmixable picks first.
1.0.38
September 21, 2026- Key colours follow Serato’s Camelot colours, and the Proven ⟷ Fresh slider moves picks between a fixed list of rows instead of resizing the panel.
1.0.33
September 21, 2026- The Proven ⟷ Fresh slider now controls the whole panel — proven picks on top, fresh ones below.
1.0.32
September 21, 2026- More accurate ‘versions ▾’ lists, and ▾ on fresh picks too.
1.0.30
September 19, 2026- Mashups now count as a version of each song they contain in ‘versions ▾’.
1.0.29
September 19, 2026- The Dock and the menu bar now say “Deck Caddie”.
1.0.28
September 19, 2026- A redesigned now-playing box: key, BPM and genre as pills, a proven · fresh readout, and the Deck Caddie wordmark in the header.
1.0.26
September 19, 2026- ‘versions ▾’ is more precise in Hebrew: a version has to match the whole song name, not just one shared word.
1.0.24
September 19, 2026- A new panel design: every pick is a card with its reason, key and BPM, and ➖ minimize sits next to ✕.
1.0.23
September 19, 2026- More reliable drag-to-deck for tracks in any library location and with non-Latin file names; the slider gets its own row.
1.0.22
September 18, 2026- New Proven ⟷ Fresh slider: drag to set how many picks are tried-and-true and how many are fresh from your own library. Cmd+V now works in text fields.
1.0.19
September 18, 2026- Reads Serato’s built-in History correctly for DJs who rely on it instead of dated crates, so the app learns from automatically recorded sessions.
1.0.18
September 18, 2026- The setup screen shows which e-mail your licence is activated with.
1.0.16
September 18, 2026- Dock icon, a ‘versions ▾’ dropdown on the picks, minimize that pops back up when the track changes, and an icon-forward header.
1.0.3
July 24, 2026- A bigger, clearer settings gear in the panel.
1.0.2
July 24, 2026- New: “Diagnostic report” in setup — a privacy-safe summary (no track names) you can share, including how well it has learned your library.
1.0.1
July 24, 2026- Full Hebrew polish across the setup signals.
- The floating panel now always returns after you open Settings.
- Clearer settings gear; fixed a clipped line in the setup panel.
1.0.0
July 23, 2026- First release — the floating panel, setup wizard, and offline recommendation engine.
